Chattanooga is located in Hamilton County, Tennessee approximately 110 miles southwest of Knoxville, 130 miles southeast of Nashville, and 115 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. Originally inhabited by American Indians and settled in 1816 as Ross’s Landing by Cherokee Chief John Ross, the community was incorporated as the city of Chattanooga in 1838, experiencing swift expansion with the arrival of the railroad and becoming a boomtown by 1850. Today, the city of Chattanooga is home to a population of approximately 168,000 residents who enjoy the gorgeous seasonal weather afforded by the city’s location within the humid subtropical climate zone that brings hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters to the area.
