About Rome, GA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
The city of Rome is located in Floyd County, Georgia approximately sixty-five miles northwest of Atlanta and sixty-eight miles south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Originally inhabited by the Cherokee Indians, Rome was founded in 1834 by a group of men who included Colonels Daniel R. Mitchell, Zacharia Hargrove, and William Smith, along with Major Philip Hemphill and John Lumpkin, nephew of Wilson Lumpkin, 35th governor of Georgia. Incorporated in 1835, the city of Rome today is home to a population of approximately 36,000 residents who enjoy the gorgeous seasonal weather produced by the city’s location within the humid subtropical climate zone that brings hot, humid summers, mild, cool winters, and wonderfully pleasant weather during the spring and fall.
Rich in history and heritage, the city of Rome boasts a number of museums and historical sites, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in Rome’s vibrant downtown and surrounded by the rivers Etowah, Oostanaula, and Coosa, the Between the Rivers Historic District boasts some of Georgia’s finest Victorian architecture in the historic homes, churches, and business establishments that line the downtown streets. Overlooking the historic district is the city’s famous Clocktower, built in 1871, that once served as the city’s water tower and now houses the works of local artist Chuck Schmult. Local museums of interest include the Chieftains Museum, Rome Area History Museum, and the Martha Berry Museum.
The city of Rome boasts a myriad of opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisure! The Rocky Mountain Recreation Area features two lakes and is the perfect location for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, camping, swimming, and boating. Other local recreational areas include Mayo’s Lock and Dam and The Pocket Recreation Area, both excellent sites for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking. The city is also home to several championship golfing facilities that include the Stonebridge Golf Club, Coosa Country Club, and Horseleg Plantation Country Club, and is the home city of the Rome Braves, Class A Minor League Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
Rome’s unique combination of small town southern charm and urban culture, together with its prime location in the foothills of the Appalachians and convenient proximity to the big city of Atlanta, makes it a great city for living, working, playing, or just visiting!
