Harrison is located in Hamilton County, Tennessee approximately thirteen miles northeast of the city of Chattanooga. Founded at the site of the ferry crossing established by Cherokee trader James Vann known as Vann’s Ferry, the town was later renamed for President William Henry Harrison, becoming the county seat for Hamilton County before it was moved to Chattanooga in 1870. Today, the city of Harrison is home to a population of approximately 7,800 residents who enjoy the seasonal climate afforded by the town’s location within the humid subtropical climate zone that brings hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters to the area.
The area in and around the city of Harrison is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise! Harrison Bay State Park and Booker T. Washington State Park, both located on the shores of Chickamauga Lake, offer a myriad of recreational opportunities that include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, boating, camping, swimming, and picnicking, as well as opportunities for bird watching and wildlife viewing.
Golfers can hit the links at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay, the second of nine courses in the Tennessee Golf Trail that features an 18-hole championship golf course with Bermuda fairways surrounded by water and dense woodland that was designed by golfing sensation Jack Nicklaus.
